Amy Chien is a Taiwanese American designer and materials researcher in NYC whose creative practice is centered on human and planetary wellness. She cocreates with earth, fungi, bacteria, plants, etc. Her work has been exhibited at galleries in NYC and Los Angeles. She has worked on built projects ranging from contemporary residential and hospitality projects to historic preservation. She is a previous grand prize winner of Pratt’s Material Lab Competition, featured in Hikerkind, and an artist at the 2023 Swale x Urban Soils Institute residency. She is currently a project lead for the Genspace Biomaterials Studio, where she hosts materials workshops for university and K-12 students and guides curious people of all ages and disciplines into the intersection of material science, art and design. In her spare time, she leads a sound healing circle as a return to self.
